Wayfare The Hunting Review By Undercity 4 (Contains Spoilers!!!)
It's been a very long time since I've written a review for anyone, but my friend Metrinome Alpha approached me a few days ago and kindly asked me to write up a review for his latest comic work he just completed. I've been keeping up with everything Metrinome does lately, and he's been improving a lot quality wise. It also didn't take long before everyone else would take notice of him too, because in the beginning he was just another unknown face until he came out swinging with some of his best work.
But if you're anything like me, and wanted a story that involves horror and lesbians in the same setting. Metrinome delivers that with The Wayfare Horror...You all have no idea how long I've been waiting for SOMEONE to finally do a lesbian story that takes full advantage of the horror theme. For the longest of time it's been limited to male on female only in both non-explicit stories and explicit content..It makes you wonder why anyone specializing in girl on girl don't look deeper into the horror aspect of things.
The story here is about 40+ pages in length which is his first full length project. There are some extra drawings in the first few pages that aren't connected to the book that shows off some of the characters that appear in the plot. Although if he was going to provide concept art, he should have done that with all the characters or at least put them all at the end as a bonus.
At first I thought the story was about Sadako from The Ring because it does explore supernatural forces that will remind you of it. There aren't any shadowy figures in white clothing crawling out of television sets or water wells though. But there is a classic scene in there that will remind you of the first Ghost Busters when Dana was abducted after several monstrous demon hands emerged from the sofa and dragged her into the kitchen to be possessed.
I had my favorite moments, and the plot appears to be broken up into multiple segments with various different characters. The first sex scene involves a male on female situation but it's not very long and is maybe one or two pages short compared to all the girl on girl action that is the ultimate main focus of the entire story both between the human females and the supernatural that take over them. This wouldn't be the first time that Metrinome did a lesbian horror erotic story, the last time he did one it was with IT. But it was also really short, Wayfare is a lot longer and allows you to explore the characters more as you progress further. The second sex scene happens between mother and daughter, yes you guessed it INCEST. Metrinome isn't afraid to go there, none of that lame overused "step mom" shit you often see in porn these days so people feel less weirded out. Although there are lots of artist that will take risk with the incest theme..It's just some sites are "Anti" about it, so you rarely see it that much outside of Japanese art sites aside from the usual incest artwork like Dexter fucking his thick ass mom. So this is how the story goes, apparently the family in the story inherit this mansion home full of powerful sexual dominating spirits with the ability to seduce and enslave. You may be thinking "that's cliche."
But not all ghost stories involve possessions, and I've never seen any of them written or created the way they appeared in Wayfare. A lot of the dialog is stimulating, and Metrinome is a very strong writer, I definitely enjoy his drawings a lot ever since he started investing more into the female on female sexual violent nature of things. It's not as extreme as the stuff in my work because I rarely ever make girls give in when they are being abused by another female sexually.
In Wayfare the girls start to resist in the beginning, there is a lot of begging and struggle between the helpless and the predatory but eventually the expression in there eyes is showing that each lady is enjoying the sexual carnage that takes over their body. While I do think the story involving the mother was perhaps the weakest, the strongest and my favorite part is when the chubby girl Erin gets involved. But the vast majority of sexual detail was definitely put into the mother and daughter segment. When Erin's part came up the start of her story, she is victimized by two shitty females that make fun of her weight. The way it's set up will catch you by surprise because you think this is just a typical bully plot. I did laugh during the part where she races home and then goes up to her room and starts fornicating with herself. I couldn't tell if she was doing it because she was getting off to the fact that she was being picked on or it was just some random urge she had...It wouldn't make much sense for someone to come home and masturbate after they were just called hurtful names..But in the end you find out that Erin is the dominant one in control and the ones that mocked her become her bitch.
That alone was definitely non-predictable because when she is lured out of the house and into the graveyard you start to get these predictable feelings "oh they are setting her up like Meg from Family guy whenever Connie and her friends plot to pull some mean spirited shit on her." But that didn't happen, they do call her an insulting name...But rather than running home and crying again, Erin starts talking like she owns them...Was she possessed?
That part I was wondering if the spirits being there had something to do with her confidence and sudden dominatrix nature coming out that took over versus the passive sensitive side she displayed when she fled in the beginning after being insulted. It then turns out that the girls that bullied her, were turned on by her physique and worshiped her curvy superiority. Obviously being a BBW has it's perks and I already said if Namio had of did that with his BBW femdom artwork with bigger women dominating smaller ones? Oh I would have enjoyed his artworks even more!
I was laughing when Erin's mother caught her in the act of masturbating though. And I wasn't expecting her to come up from behind and get sexual with her own daughter...But right after she becomes disgusted with what she did, you don't see Erin's mother again in the story. So yes, there is a lot of incest going on in this book.
Then you have the sexual encounter between the two siblings that take each other to warfare in the shower with the oldest demanding her sister to go into detail about what happened between her younger sister and their mother. I have to admit that Mestrinome does a fantastic job with tongue and kissing, you can literately almost feel how intense the sex must be when someone is gripped full of mouth between their legs, wrapped tightly and deeply around the lips.
It's this level of detail you rarely see. The one area that does need more improvement is within some parts of the art itself. It's not poorly drawn or anything like that it's just that there are certain parts of the book that were colored and drawn much better. Like all the parts involving Erin had a lot more detail, the dark edges and outlines were also sharper than they were in other segments where they had more of a faded look. I'm not sure if this was intentional on Mestrinome's part or that he was just aiming for a specific direction with each scene.
It just looks half finished like he intended to get all the outline parts to be as solid and sharp as they were in Erin's segments but didn't. I also feel that he shouldn't try to blend his drawings in with real life settings because it makes the images look as if they were cut out and pasted onto the background. You don't see any shadows present either in some scenes, so it looks as if the characters aren't touching the pavement or surface they are walking on. I don't know if he does this because drawing environments is difficult than drawing the characters. But he should definitely create the environments vs using actual real environments.
Even with 3D modeling this looks a little off, which is why I never use plain HDRI's with a real life background and a 3D figure, I prefer to use actual 3D environments over HDRI environments it just doesn't look realistic at all even when someone with skill blends them with photo manipulation it still doesn't look as good as rendering in an actual 3D environment.
So he should just draw all the environments like he does with the characters so they don't ruin the drawings. Shadows are very important, without them images can look flat or washed out, even more so if the outline is too soft or faded looking. You can certainly see and notice the quality difference though if you look close at Erin's parts and then you go back or move forward to the other pages. You will see clearly that her scenes are much better in quality than the other portions.Yet the part where she's walking down the street with Kristi you will notice there aren't any shadows other than shadows from the environment itself like the trees, etc. But the girls themselves are lacking their own shadow and its quite sunny outside. You can see the shadow effects from their clothing just fine, but there aught to be ground shadows as well so they don't look so flat or like paper.
The shower segment is also another part that has high production quality. It's mostly the parts involving the mother and her daughter where the outlines look faded. And I noticed the same thing with some of the ghost ladies too. To be honest the direction of the story is great, and I've seen a lot of his other work before which tends to truly outshine what he did here in terms of quality. That's not to say that this work is lackluster, it's that he's out done it with other themes.
Judging from the way he writes, he already understands good pacing, and how to write a detail story that doesn't drag it's feet. Lesbian horror stories are very rare. At one point he was holding back on the loli themes because my guess is he wasn't very sure about it. He didn't want people to make accusations about him. But overtime he got over all that and started creating that sort of art, just weren't any of it present in this story. So no need to panic if you intend to read the comic and dont' like the other stuff.
Overall I did enjoy Wayfare because it's a theme I explore a lot myself, and it's always nice to see another artist tackle the horror lesbian theme to see what they can come up with. I do like it being more of a niche though because if everyone else did it, well it wouldn't be as interesting anymore. Another thing I want to see him do more of is the BBW type girls lol, for some reason the way he draws them is such a turn on and they do fit the dominant role better, so by Erin being such a big girl she could easily destroy those other girls like Cassie that make fun of her.
I did also enjoy some of the ghost segments too, mainly the one that looks like she was inspired from The Ring. Wasn't really feeling the mistress one that controls all the others though. Everyone may not approve of his art style or art direction in this story. I believe that if he keeps working hard on it and sticking to one specific theme for awhile, it can really help him in the long run. It's good to study one genre, then master it. After that move on to a new concept or idea. Although I am the master of Thriller and Horror erotic arts. I still see that there is a great level of potential in Mets work and hope to see him engage more challenging ideas in the future that other people avoid....
I mean you know how difficult it is to find an artist that's devoted like this to female on female sexual violence? Even though at times it didn't look as if the women were suffering, like I said before they had a tendency to stop resisting and the expression on their faces showed that they were possibly enjoying the predatory behavior and dominance of another woman in control of them whether that woman be dead or alive. Still I have to give credit to the artist for taking the risk and stepping up to the plate to take one for the team vs playing it safe or sticking to the what's every trendy and mainstream route. The lesbian genre definitely needs more boldness and less of this weak ass Romantic-Core shit.
The Final Verdict
Character Choices: 9 out of 10
Genre Choice: 10 Out of 10 Because horror stories are so rare involving girl on girl, it's great to see someone else besides myself tackle this theme with great admiration.
Sexual Content: 10 Out of 10
Metrinome certainly has a way of capturing exceptional pleasure with his own unique art style. The way he does tongue action is even better than most of the higher quality artist that I've seen that tried it. That's because kissing and tongue action is rarely utilized as much as it should be. And some people simply just ignore it entirely except for when the girl on girl takes place below the waist line.
Art Quality: 7 Out of 10
The Art itself isn't terrible or anything, it's just that in some parts as I mentioned before suffer a bit because of the lack of shadows in realistic environments that don't blend very well with the characters vs him drawing the environment. Some characters also tend to look a little paper thin, and there is some fading in the outline area that reduces the quality of the art itself. For instance, the mother in the story has a faded out outline and it looks lower in quality compared to the scenes involving Haley and Kristi that have greater focus applied to it. Some part of the story was also drawn a lot better than others like the Shower scene between Haley and Kristi, and mostly all of Erin parts were done well too, especially the graveyard segment. Although Erin moments still had a few noticeable things that need improvement.
Length: 10 Out of 10
Stories like this that are over 40 or more pages long automatically get a high rating in length department. It's nice to see someone who isn't rushing through this sort of thing and really investing into it. If a concept idea is good, then it's best for the artist to stick with it vs rushing everything only to end up disappointing the viewers that will declare to see much more if they end up enjoying it from the very beginning.
Final Score 9 out of 10
