The Curse Of AI Generated Content
Earlier today I was on X (Twitter) and I noticed that baraag posted something that rejects AI artist from joining Baraag. But let's be reasonable here, Baraag is a platform full of amateurs and barely any high quality artist at all. It's not like they are attracting big name artist, because the majority of those artists prefer being on Twitter/X for whatever reason. I gave Twitter a try and I honestly hate the platform...
Of course, Baraag has decided not to allow AI artists, regardless of whether the content is realistic or not. The reason? AI artists aren't real artists. Therefore, the founder put a stipulation on this, while other art platforms have embraced AI and allowed it to completely take over their platforms. I do still dislike AI art, but I'll make exceptions for AI content that generates stuff that doesn't exist otherwise.
I've seen a lot of AI art of content I wish had original
versions, but they don't, so I settled for the AI version of what didn't
exist before. AI can create things that actual artists wouldn't want to
create themselves. So someone who understands AI can just generate all
sorts of interesting things with it. I've been collecting several AI
generated images of Sadako from the Ring because I used to always
complain in the past that there wasn't enough art of her at all. Then AI
came along, and now there are thousands of images of Sadako even though
most of them are garbage.... Especially the stuff involving her with males. But this was even problematic before AI.
So how are these images of
Reika Kitami being created when there are no copies or original versions
for them to steal in order to generate these exact images of her? I
don't understand how AI works or how it creates these images out of thin
air. But for something to just create a perfectly good face and body for
a character with no original copies to steal from, AI must be a very
strong program that understands who Reika Kitami is to generate perfectly good images of her.
I can understand why Baraag doesn't want AI
artist on it's platform because most art platforms that openly allowed
AI ended up taken over by AI artwork, so now it's harder than to
find original art because there's too much AI generated content churning
out images. DeviantArt is proof of this phenomenon when I went there
the other day.
What did I find? Well, I ran into A LOT of AI generated art, and it looks as though AI art has fully taken over DeviantArt. There is a post that someone made that is heavily Anti-AI and a lot of people are commenting on why AI is unethical. Of course, there are people there who defend the use of AI generated material, so the debate over whether it is problematic and needs to be eradicated from all art platforms is debatable. I don't like AI and hate that it's become a trend to the point where original art is getting harder to find because of it. But there has been lots of niche and rare content created from AI that doesn't exist in any other art form. My guess is it generates images from real photographs and then turn them into art images somehow.
