DesireSFM gives up on Blender and returns back to SFM, for now.

When I wrote the review for DesireSFM's Corruption Of The Lodge IV (not published yet) I thought he was done with SFM for good. Today when I asked him how he was doing because I hadn't spoken to him in awhile and wanted to know if he was making any progress at all with Blender. And this is what he had to say:

Undercity4: How is everything with you D?

DesireSFM: Good. Decided to make another vid in SFM since learning blender just frustrates me too much currently.

So as you can see his experience with Blender so far hasn't been a good one, and while I feel that he just haven't spent as much time with it to figure out how the program works he's probably just itching to create vs spending too much time not being able to at all. I know for a fact D isn't lazy, he's works too hard to be considered someone that is just lazy and doesn't want to figure out a better program than SFM. We've all seen what he is capable of with SFM, how much effort and heart that goes into the work he does. I don't want D having that herd mentality where he feels like he just have to use Blender because all the other major animators are using it now.

The problem is that Blender is not easily accessible for some people that want to take full advantage of the power it can offer even for a veteran like DesireSFM that mastered cinematic animations in SFM. You need a lot of patience especially if you don't want to be just another animator doing boring weak animations. Half of the artist that rely on blender are still terrible at creating soft shadows in their scenes.

About 80% of the blender animations I see have poor shadows regardless of the graphics looking really good, the shadows are very important. Harsh shadows are quite noticeable and kills some credibility of a 3D image and that applies to animations too.

If you pay any attention to how well Desire animates in SFM he wants to maintain that level of quality, not lose it while working in a much better program with more features to work with. So you cannot blame him for his frustration. If he went from doing cinematic level animations to lackluster animations to how he originally started out in SFM, well that would be very upsetting for him and defeats the purpose of replacing SFM with Blender.

There are a lot of tools you have to learn to be a master of Blender and it's a program that would be easier to perfect if he takes smaller steps with it. I spoke to our good friend Steven Carson who at one point was trying to conquer the art of animation himself in Blender. He use to tell me that he was too lazy to invest in becoming good enough to focus on animations instead of his pinup artwork. That's why he prefers to do his pinup art over learning the ins and outs of animating. Even the very best sometimes can become doubtful and question their own abilities, there's nothing wrong with that of course.

I pitched an idea to him that he should help Desire out but Steven explained to me that he is just an amateur that knows the basics so he feels that he would be rather useless in helping Desire with this challenging feat. Being the voice of reason that I am I figured if I could afford to do it I would pay someone to teach him Blender at least someone that understands the program well enough to get him started.

Are you ready for this Blender dick? Look how shiny these PS5 graphics are! Insert this into your fertile PS2 girls. (All joking aside this doesn't look like PS5 lol)

There are not too many animators I could go to because I don't know all of them personally and it would be rather costly to pay for the training depending on what they agree to and for how long I feel that it's important for me to support and help D including all my artistic friends, associates, and allies as much so we have a much stronger foundation and share a common interest. I don't know what the future holds for DesireSFM. I believe this is his second time giving up on the program after seeing how difficult it is to figure out what to do with it, or where to even get started.

Not everyone using Blender is a perfectionist of it either,  plenty of animators have realistic movements, and know the physics to create believable motions. But if you look at a lot of the animations being produced in Blender, the majority of it isn't that great to begin with.  There are a lot of average looking animations, futanari animators are becoming more scarce and rarer when they are any good animating at all. You have a few generic short pieces but the big projects are rare, sometimes Nyl might have something slightly interesting but I don't like the fantasy characters he use.

A lot of the sex  found in these animations that I see other artist doing like PuppetMaster3DX is extremely tame, slow, and looks more like romantic couple sex because animating fast moving characters relentlessly fucking like they resent one another is VERY CHALLENGING, hardly anyone is capable of even doing it. How often do you actually see rough sex in Blender? So far the only artist I've seen who pulled that off so well recently was Radroach.

I can imagine DesireSFM animating like this in Blender since it's very close to how vicious he would have done that if it were his animation. Only I think D would have been even more brutal than that with it. Regardless of what software D decides to use I told him today on Discord that he should use whatever software he feels most comfortable creating his animations with.

If Blender is stressing him out and causing frustration. That sort of thing can prompt an artist to just say "forget it, I'm wasting too much time trying to learn how to make something with this and not getting anything done."

You have all these Blender animators who aren't even making actual videos either just boring as hell short second animations to 1 or 2 minutes because they know people will still pay for their laziness. You have animators who have been using Blender for years who are good at it and still they refuse to be a workhorse and perform better than what they are doing. I don't even think they pay any attention at all to their own feedback because a lot of the times. Their viewers demand longer material but none of these artist is willing to give it to them.

It's too easy to earn money with little effort by making loops and short animations people can't even really get off on. Artist feel they are not obligated to put more effort into what they are doing because they are going to get paid anyway. KamasdevaSFM is a very harsh but an honest critic just like myself when it comes down to animators that are doing all these useless loops and short second animations.

If you show him any short animated content he gets irritated because he can't stand the artists laziness and just feel that the market is over saturated with too much of it when he and only a small hand full of other artist are even trying to invest in something extensive. At times they feel overlooked by these other artist getting the most attention even if they aren't trying very hard. Still KamadevaSFM showed me some new content on discord last week and it looks good.

DAMN THAT BLENDER! I'm going back to SFM to make greater things happen.

We had that discussion this morning about the lack of motivation with the art world, among other topics related to where the art world is currently headed in this century and maybe the future if we even have one left. I expressed my concerns with AI being abused by so many people and whether or not it's going to replace non-AI art. AI art in general is just really disappointing, I have even seen assholes using it to enter art contest and actually winning against real artist, which is just absurd as hell. I can see why the quality of art has gone to shit the past few years.

And why some artist strongly oppose and hate AI generated "art" if you can even call it art. And now you have people who are playing around with AI voice acting. This may be useful for people who can't afford to hire actual voice actresses and just want their animations to have dialog. But I have heard what AI speech sounds like and it's just noticeable as hell you can actually tell it's not a person providing the voice work. No way in hell I can give up authentic in exchange for AI generated everything. That alone will do it for me to avoid dialog animations once everyone starts going to AI voice generated voice acting because they want to be cheap asses about hiring real voice talent. I don't think D would be foolish enough to do that, at least I hope he isn't.  The voice actresses in his work are always the best, I love hearing them talk. You can't replace those sexy women with AI shit, no way, no how.

Dan, DesireSFM, kamasdevaSFM, and a few others I talked to recently so far are the only two active artist I know of personally who I have spoken to about becoming much better than what we are at what we want to do and I have had similar discussions with StevenCarson and a number of other artist who were either on the verge of quitting such as myself or barely motivated to stick around long enough to see where the art world is headed.

Seeing DesireSFM having to give up on Blender is interesting in a way since I was eager to see what he was going to bring even though I have no qualms about him going back to SFM.  I wanted to see what kind of crazy ideas he had prepared for his first Blender animation, in time he would totally rule that program. I'm not disappointed that he decided to remain with SFM for awhile longer, like I said I'm perfectly fine with him using SFM for as long as he wants to use it. And I am positive everyone else feel the same.

I especially feel rather useless because I cannot help him on his journey to mastering Blender. I don't have the money to pay someone to teach him how to take advantage of the Power Of Blender. What does this mean? It simply means that he'll keep using SFM from now on at least until he can overcome his struggle with Blender if he ever does.

I just don't want him to get so frustrated that he ends up quitting altogether and not doing anything at all anymore which would be terrible. His animations give me hope that good content still somewhat exist even though it barely does at all with the lack of artist doing anything remotely worth it. I would rather he just stick with SFM and keep putting out more review worthy content like he's been doing ever since Miranda in Charge and I wouldn't complain in the slightest.

Blender is a challenging and very complex program to fully understand before you can utilize every tool it offers you to truly become a master at it. The majority of those animators you see who are good enough to at least animate 30 seconds of uselessness probably spent some months learning it while others like Steven Carson are fast learners because he caught on and figured out how to animate basic animations within one month.

He just doesn't have the patience or motivation to invest in the program so he didn't stick with it. I believe all of us at some point wanted to try animating because it's beneficial, being able to animate anything is worth having in your portfolio, it shows that you can give people more than just still images and I crave the ability to animate like D, hell if he could show me how I would use SFM over blender. I got ideas people would love so SFM wouldn't bother my fans at all. They are still all over my outdated Poser Pro 2012 renders -laughs-

However Steve told me he really hated his animations because he wanted them to be rough and he wasn't able to accomplish that accomplishment. Tunnofun is another artist I'm very good friends with that also figured out how to use Blender in a shorter time period in order to animate a few basic scenes.

Neither of these guys have years of experience with the program. And I wouldn't call them lazy although Steven admitted his reasons for not animating on a consistent basis was due to laziness on his own part because Blender is too difficult, complicated, and time consuming even though he knows how to do some basic movements. He just doesn't want to do anything that feels like it's stuck on repeat, loops as Kamadeva and myself call it.

Some artist are trying to rush through strict deadlines and when they do that, they barely get to do anything longer than a few seconds. I wouldn't be comfortable or cool with this if I were to animate. People will either have to wait a year or 2 for me to put out a major hit classic or go to someone else. I don't believe in that fast paced work life shit. That's how the overworked and stressed out Americans do it, not me.

                                                       The Power Cock Of Blender

Desire is someone that have high expectations of himself, someone like D knows that they are very good at what they do and they want to be able to keep being that good. You don't want to go from being a legend in a program that's inferior to a program that offers more tools to make you that much more better than what you were in another program. Moving over to Blender is a chance to really show what you can do with better models, better lighting tools, better physics, everything that SFM lacks even though SFM can still do some impressive animations when used by someone that understands what they are doing.

It's not entirely inferior, hell if I understood how to use it I definitely would animate with it and wouldn't give two shits about trying to learn blender if I knew it would require too much time to figure it out on my own without any coaching, and training from someone skilled...Plus I have learning disabilities too, I'm very slow at learning complex stuff, no way I could ever figure out Blender. I can write comics, I can do graphic novels, I can do a lot of other things artistically but blender? I can probably learn how to animate like D in SFM before I could do a simple walk animation in Blender.

So I understand what D is going through, why he felt disappointed and frustrated to the point of returning back to SFM. It's because he knows that with SFM he can at least come up with something worth your time in a matter of weeks even after he just finished a major accomplishment with Corruption Of The Lodge IV.

If he wants to master or learn Blender, there are a few helpful videos and tutorials that can teach him some things. I learned how to make a few basic morphs in blender from Steven Carson but nothing very spectacular which I am still learning on my own during those downtime moments when there's nothing else better to do. Last month before my PSU went to hell and never came back I figured out how to do vehicular damage in Blender so that will come in handy for those intense moments in a story if I want car wreckage. Now I'm studying how to produce better illustration work for book covers and advertisements for my own assignments.

What Desire did for our side in terms of content creation and being the best animator that's still very active is a blessing because we don't have anyone else giving us that cinematic experience with animations.  PuppetMaster3DX tries every now and then but his content is painfully lackluster, plus he's STILL using those barbie doll like characters for whatever reason.

A lot of people using blender may create a cinematic effect in terms of graphics but the presentations and delivery are usually weak and don't reflect a cinematic experience at all. The one benefit is that if  D does ever learn Blender he will have access to much better models with better details and figures. He will be able to make better looking dicks for his women too as you can see with some of the images I used for this blog.

Overall D told me that he won't give up on SFM entirely and will continue to use it, I had asked him a few days ago if he was planning to ever try Blender again or was this it for him. He said he will give it a shot again but he will not abandoned SFM completely even if he figures out Blender (meaning he might be working with both programs eventually). So for now he will concentrate on creating in SFM still. He told that being able to animate at all gives him great joy and satisfaction vs spending a lot of time struggling and not being able to make anything.

It's good that he isn't going to just abandon his goal and walk away from it. Perhaps he rushed head first into Blender without a plan, but this experience will give him enough time to reflect upon it, and prepare for next time when he decides to challenge the program a third round.

Whatever he does from here on out, it will surely have to surpass Corruption III and IV because those are his award winners, the best animations. Corruption III was already gaining attention for three to four years straight. But for now the Lady D one he did has the highest view count on Pornhub (terrible porn site) even though it wasn't that good compared to his Witcher ones or even the Miranda in Charge one.

Give it time and I'm sure Corruption IV will dethrone it in view count but in my opinion his Witcher content triumphs over all his Non-Witcher material but that's probably because he's a major fan of the franchise therefore he's going to do whatever it takes to make Witcher a new experience you won't forget. If you weren't a fan of the series before, his animations might turn you into one. It's going to take a bit more time before he starts perfecting anything non-witcher related though he did accomplish that already with Miranda In Charge.

He did a poll on his patreon early this week asking everyone if they were okay with him continuing to make content in SFM or if they can't stand the old dated graphics anymore, and over 95% of his supporters chose for him to continue creating in SFM vs beating himself up over not switching to Blender like everybody else. Although I was concerned that if people expressed that they were tired of him relying on SFM...This would have put a tremendous amount of extra pressure on him.

It's still too early to tell how many will choose that they can't stand the dated SFM graphics, for now it was at 5% when StevenCarson showed me the poll this morning.  If I were him and I knew how to use SFM I just wouldn't worry about the graphics. He have over  24,000 or more supporters on Patreon, he's not going to lose all those supporters just because he won't switch over to Blender. A few might be sore at him for not switching to Blender sooner. Still it's not going to hurt his support count at all. If anything people pirating his stuff before the day it's completed for his Patreons before he releases it a week or two free afterwards is doing more damage than him not going over to Blender. And I really wish people would stop doing this shit. It's not going to hurt to wait a few days for a free release from him.

Another thing is that, graphics aren't everything, sure it's good to look at but if you can create legendary material in SFM and make everyone else using Blender look like a lazy ass in comparison, why even bother? Compared to every other animator, D's content always get the most views everywhere his content is posted vs all these Blender users because he actually works harder than everyone else and people are aware of it, that's why he gets all the respect even though some people have compared SFM to PS2 graphics to be insulting.

In this day and age more people are actually going back to PS2 and PS1 games anyway because next gen is nothing but remake trash of everything from the past with prettier graphics and micro-transactions. This alone is proving graphics don't mean very much anymore. People care more about fun and gameplay, only people persuaded by graphics care about graphics.

So if he wants to stick with SFM because he actually gets to have fun making stuff vs struggling all day in Blender. He should keep creating with SFM. I know he said he was going to produce content faster from now on but I hope that doesn't mean he's going to seize doing those 30 minute type videos -chuckles- I can't go from that back to 6-10 minute animations like he use to do long ago, damn that would be a step down.

If he just wants to do faster content sometimes so people don't have to wait very long, that's understandable... But it's the 20-30 minute animations that make him standout from the crowd.

D is definitely one of those once in a life time deals. I remember back in 2005 after I watched Bible Black and seen how ruthless Imari did that Bank teller in the bathroom I kept saying it over and over "I hope more artist can animate something like this one day." It took all the way until 2015-2017 for that to finally happen and ever since then, D remains on top of the pyramid. Radroach could get there too if he actually did something longer with that Lara Croft animation of his but instead he chose the 30 second route.  The standard for most animations that look very good in blender or have any potential at all. But I'm unsure if he's new, time will tell where the Rad will take us, I have faith in him.

Persistent Evil 2, A Sequel Is Coming...
(this is the scene from the first one but he told me he's working on a sequel to it)

I might offer to do the Poster Art for this one if he lets me. I just need to get a hold of some face morphs to these characters, I could borrow Steve's and use his since he normally have accurate face morphs of characters from video games, I have many myself that I either built on my own or purchased. Although I honestly don't like Claire, Steve says he didn't like her either.

I wish D would use the Degeneration version from that 3D movie instead of that ugly RE2 Remake version. Capcom took a heavy crap on her face in RE2 remake. She looks nothing like Claire from the original games or that movie. It's like staring at a totally different character. That's all the more reason to hate remakes.

Developers either crap up their personalities or crap up their designs. It's even worse when they commit both sins and don't even bother to correct it. Silent Hill 2 Remake did the same garbage to James. He looks like a drugged out addict with an alcohol problem that beat his wife and then choked her to death while he was jacking off to her suffocating. I have no idea what the other characters look like but I'm too afraid to look and want to know. Remakes are a turn off, the only characters who didn't change look wise in remakes were the FF7 cast. They still look exactly the same as the PS1 counterparts, only much much more updated like the Advent Children movie.
